ASUU Postpones Decision To Strike, Accuses Federal Government Of Blackmail.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has postponed its decision on strike, saying that consultations are ongoing. This was contained in a press statement issued by the union after its National Executive Council meeting. The meeting held at at its Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja, on Saturday, 18th December, 2021 to review the level of government’s implementation of the FGN-ASUU Memorandum of Action of 23rd December, 2020 and other related matters. In the press statement titled, ‘Enough of blackmail’, signed by ASUU president, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, the lecturers regretted that the Federal Government has turned its back on plan to set up an inter-ministerial committee to review the draft Renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement. ASUU May and May not Embark On Strike Over FG’s Non-Implementation Of Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) issue strike notice to the federal government over its failure to implement the agreement reached with the union, THISDAY has learnt. The union leaders met in Abuja last night with all the zonal branches to harmonise the union’s position on the alleged non-fulfillment of the agreement contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the federal government. ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who confirmed the meeting in a telephone conversation with THISDAY, however declined to respond to further enquiries on the outcome of the meeting. However, a source privy to the meeting, told THISDAY that most of the resolutions from the ASUU branches across the country were in support of proceeding on strike.
